10 Diversity Employers | DiversityEmployers.com | December 2015 STUDENT SUCCESS IN THE JOB MARKET I am the coordinator of the Diver- sity Professional Leadership Network (DPLN) Program, which is a partner- ship with employers designed to impart career & industry knowledge to stu- dents. I have seen Denise's profession- alism grow this past year; by matching her with her professional mentor and guiding her through many mock inter- views, I have helped her enhance her leadership skills and feel prepared in her internship/job search. u After applying for the position of Management Consulting Analyst with Accenture through the Mount Holyoke College Career Development Center, Moreen participated in a series of one- on-one behavioral and case style mock interview preparation sessions. She was determined to have the opportunity to be considered as a candidate for Accen- ture and utilized all the relevant resourc- es that the Career Development Center offers to students. Moreen attended workshops, daily walk-in hours, and 30-minute advising sessions for resume and cover letter critiques. Her ongoing dedication to professional development allowed Accenture to see that she would be a great ft for their company, resulting in an immediate hire prior to her last semester at the college. I have been working at Mount Holyoke College since June 2011. As the designated staff member for the senior class, I spend a great deal of time preparing students to land the job that best suits their current and future professional goals. Since arriving on campus, Moreen Tonny has sought out opportunities to become involved and take on leadership roles. She was then able to work with us to strategize and refne her networking and job search skills. Moreen jumped right into the on-campus recruiting process at the be- ginning of this academic year, pursuing opportunities posted in nonproft, ca- pacity building and management con- sulting. At the same time, she worked in conjunction with my colleagues during additional 30-minute advising and 15 minute walk-in appointments to tailor her resume and cover letter to the po- sitions that interested her. One of the most critical aspects of Moreen's success was her willingness to take advantage of the plethora of personal, online and community resources available to her. At Mount Holyoke College, we are aware that we can set each student up for success by providing resources, developing a relationship based on the student's goals, and encouraging stu- dents to update us regularly so we can empower them to be successful in the preparation, interview and negotiation processes. Moreen is a great example of a student who used these resources ef- fectively. This support for the job search leads to satisfed alumnae who are then independently more adept at conduct- ing well thought out and comprehen- sive searches for future opportunities. The Lynk experience at Mount Holyoke College connects academic work with practical applications of the liberal arts and sciences, helping students think deeply about what they want to do after graduation, acquire skills, and match career options with their personal goals. It is truly rewarding to see how the Lynk, Career Development Center resources, and students' hard work can land them in advantageous positions to engage with the world. u Kimberly Joy Dixon, Assistant Direc- tor of Employer Relations & Diversity Career Center, Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY Her ongoing dedication to professional development allowed Accenture to see that she would be a great ft for their company, resulting in an immediate hire prior to her last semester at the college.
