USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN: Commissioned – Nov. 11, 1989; Length – 1092 feet; Max speed – in excess of 30 knots; Height – 206 feet; Flight deck area – 4.5 Acres; Meals prepared daily – 15,000 to 20,000. massive elevator that delivered the aircraft from the bowels of the ship, to navigating the ship from the bridge, to those brave souls on the fight deck signaling the pilots. I saw how young men and women, some no more than 20 years old, participated in the operation a seagoing airbase. There was a great sense of camaraderie among the men and women, young and old Sailors of various ethnic backgrounds. This diversity at work showed great honor and is a tribute to the man after whom this carrier is named. My privileged tour of the USS Abraham Lincoln was exciting. However, the most exciting aspects of the tour were the fy out aboard a Navy C-2 Greyhound transport with an arrested landing and the leave the next day with a catapult launch at 180mph in 2.4s. What we learned on that tour confrms that the US Navy is the greatest Naval Aviation force in military history, and the most effective means of providing humanitarian assistance around the world. u (4) Dr. Stan P.
